Literature

 H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel "Vergoldete Bronzen ", 1986, p. 543

A very beautiful Louis XVI gilt bronze figural clock with music, signed on the white enamel dial Vauchez à Paris. The dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and a very fine pair of pierced gilt brass hands for the hours and minutes, striking on the hour and half hour on a single bell. The magnificent gilt bronze case attributed to the eminent bronzier Osmond

Paris, date circa 1780

Height 67 cm

The movement was made by the Parisian clockmaker, Daniel Vauchez, who was received as a maître-horloger in 1767. Vauchez is recorded as operating from rue St-Pierre aux Boeufs from 1769-90 and appears to have been succeeded by his son, Jean-Henri-David. The latter became a maître-horloger in 1779 and a juré of his guild in 1786.
