A very rare and fine quality mahogany floor standing regulator made by the eminent Swiss clockmaker,Pierre Jaquet-Droz. The large enamel dial with Roman numerals, signed Jaquet Droz. The sweep seconds and days of the month hands are finely made of blued steel, the beautiful gilded minutes and hour hands are of exceptional quality.

La Chaux de Fonds, date circa 1770
Height 205 cm.

The carved gilded rosette is mounted as a central decoration. The two train month going movement is of unusual construction, a brass weight is used for the going. A very well executed pin wheel escapement maintaining power and a separately suspended massive five rod semi-compensated pendulum. The strike is powered by a spring barrel and gives a quarter strike on two bells and the hours on a single bell.

Another unusual, but fine feature is the repeat on request which is activated by  the means of a pull cord, the strike is released and sounds the last hour on a single bell, and  ting tang on two bells for the last quarter.

All the steel and wheel work is very well executed. The back plate is also fully signed and engraved Jaquet Droz à La Chaux de Fonds.
